BYOD4L 2018 starts tomorrow …

I’m looking forward to facilitating on BYOD4L this week (15th to 19th January 2018). BYOD4L is a bite-size facilitated open course offered over 5 days for educators and students in HE but also anybody else who would like to learn with us as to how we can utilise our digital media and devices for professional, lifelong and lifewide learning. Judging by the organisation team hangout that we had on Friday it’s going to such a giggle. (Sheila MacNeill, Alex Spiers, Neil Withnell and Suzanne Faulkner) I already know the lovely Sheila, Alex and Neil of course but haven’t met Suzanne yet in person so it was a real pleasure to get to talk with her virtually… I am already in awe of her juggling skills and have found a kindred spirit in our love of bitmoji …. An enjoyable and productive final meeting with the #BYOD4L team. @debbaff @sheilmcn @SFaulknerPandO …

Sketchnoting CPD …

Ok, so I’m a bit of an amateur sketchnoter … here is one I did earlier that I am quite proud of that we are now using on our revamped CPD Web Page at Swansea … you can see it in all its glory at …https://salt.swan.ac.uk/cpd/   I’m not very good at keeping my sketchnotes in one place so I’m trying to find a new system …  I have used things like Flickr and Pinterest in the past but I’m just not that good at remembering to put them somewhere … I guess what I was thinking about really was a quick way just to keep them all together and wondered whether instagram might be the way to go ? Not sure … answers on a postcard please 🙂

CMALT …mmmm Deadlines ?

Mmm, Looking at the Submission Process for CMALT it seems the next deadlines are : 1st October 2016 1st February 2017 1st June 2017 Given the fact that I have only just started pulling my stuff together I am probably realistically looking at a February submission ( not to mention the fact that I am supposed to be moving house this week so I kinda have my hands full ! ) Progress So Far … Ok, so I have had a good snoop around the portfolios that have been shared on the ALT Website. I found this really helpful and I think I have settled on using WordPress to use to collect my evidence together. I’ve set up a quick wordpress account and started populating some pages with the headings outlined in the CMALT guidelines ( as suggested by the ever helpful David Hopkins ). I have kept this private …

#altc September 2016 – My Highlights

Debs Highlights from ALTc  There were so many brilliant sessions to choose from and inevitably there were some that I wanted attend but couldn’t go to but from those that I did go to, here are some of my key highlights along with some of my attempts at the ‘doodly sketchee’ things… Discovering and connecting the institutional dots around learning analytics Sheila MacNeill and Jim Emery explained all about their project as part of the JISC effective Learning Analytics Programme and their quest to find insights into the patterns of use of technology for learning and teaching in relation to student engagement.  They gave a fab outline of their endeavours and struggle with the complicated interweave of culture, processes, people and technology and the importance of having both sufficient time, resources and institutional investment in the project in order to make progress. The session was well attended and even had us …
